Faith & Art in Siena and San Gimignano

In the beginning of the 14th century Siena became a catalyst of change and it was a transformative time for art. Artists Duccio, Simone Martini and the brothers Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti developed a new way of painting showing emotion and storytelling. This movement influenced European art broadly.

Both Siena and San Gimignano are UNESCO World Heritage sites rich in history and art.

Sarah Burles, an art historian and authorised lay minister.

San Gimignano, with origins in the Etruscan era, became a key trade and pilgrimage centre on the Via Francigena. It is known for its towers and Renaissance artworks by Benozzo Gozzoli and Domenico Ghirlandaio.
